Marketing terms, defined plainly.

Consideration Stage

The consideration stage is the point in the buyer journey where a prospect has defined their problem and is actively evaluating approaches and providers. They are comparing options, not yet deciding. Content and conversations here should help them evaluate, building the case for your approach without pushing for a premature close.

In the consideration stage, the buyer knows they have a problem and is weighing how to solve it, including whether to solve it at all. This is where you win or lose the deal quietly, by being the option that best helps them think, not the one that pushes hardest. Pressure here backfires. Genuine help builds the trust that the decision stage then converts.

Example:

A buyer comparing agencies against hiring in-house is in consideration. Helping them weigh that honestly earns the trust that closes later, more than a hard pitch would.

What does a buyer need in the consideration stage?

Help evaluating their options honestly, including trade-offs, so they can build confidence in an approach. Pressure to decide tends to backfire here.

How is consideration different from decision?

In consideration the buyer is comparing approaches and providers. In the decision stage they have chosen a direction and are finalizing the specific choice.
